2022 Zuccardi Polígnonos Semillon
Feb 2025 Selection
The 2021 Zuccardi Polígonos Malbec is medium-bodied, very elegant, fresh and pleasant, pure Malbec juice with no interference.

The Zuccardi estate’s story started with a vineyard planted in 1963 by Alberto Zuccardi in the Maipu region of Mendoza. The rest of Alberto’s life was devoted to his passion for wine. His son José Alberto Zuccardi took over in 1990 and continued to grow the estate. Today the third generation of the family, Sebastian Zuccardi, runs the estate. Sebastian expanded the family’s holdings into the Uco Valley with a new winery that focuses on producing wines with identity, wines that reflect the various terroirs of the Uco Valley.
The Zuccardi family’s approach to sustainability starts with the environment and people before any product. They’re dedicated to producing the highest quality wines through sustainable practices such as a focus on nurturing biodiversity, organic farming, efficient irrigation practices, composting, water treatment, comprehensive waste and recycling efforts, and the use of solar energy. The winery itself is designed to be naturally energy efficient by maximizing natural light and minimizing electricity consumption. Its concrete walls fulfill the function of a thermal insulator, the movements of liquid are caused by gravity and the concrete-designed vessels allow for a natural control of the temperature of the wine as it ferments.
Valle de Uco is a wine region located in the Andes Mountains. The villages in the valley boast unique landscapes, climates and soils. Sebastian Zuccardi has this to say about his Polígonos line: “Polígonos is the expression of the villages of the Valley. These are wines that make us travel through those places, through their landscapes, climates and soils. Its grapes come from different places that can be imagined on a map with diverse shapes and edges. A capricious geometry as diverse as the sides of a Polygon. As diverse as the wines of each village.”
This 100% Semillon comes from El Peral, from a vineyard at 3,937 feet above sea level. El Peral is in the Tupungato wine region, which is the northernmost sub region of the Uco Valley. Tupungato is also one of the highest peaks in the Andes. The climate in this region is cool with very cold nights. The soils are heterogeneous and come from the alluvial fan of the Las Tunas River. The soil consists of layers of small gravel with the occasional limestones on top.
The weather for the 2022 vintage had intense sunlight during the day followed by low temperatures at night. The grapes were able to ripen steadily while retaining their natural acidity. The resulting wine is elegant, and complex with a wonderful balance of freshness and juiciness.
The grapes were pressed and fermented with native yeasts. Both fermentation and aging were done in untoasted French oak 500 liter-barrels. There was no malolactic fermentation.
The resulting wine is yellow in color. The expressive nose offers enticing chamomile and honey notes with subtle woody aromas. On the palate, it’s creamy and tart with a vibrant, savory profile that lingers on the tongue before the fairly concentrated, fruity finish.
Recommended pairings for this wine are pork, shellfish, goat cheese, grilled and roasted white meats, and paella.
