2021 Unshackled Chardonnay

The Prisoner Wine Company’s first wine “The Prisoner” was inspired by the drinkable “mixed blacks” made by the Italian immigrants who originally settled in Napa Valley. The Prisoner soon became recognized as one of the most innovative Napa Valley wines, leading the resurgence of California red blends and earning “cult wine” status.

The Prisoner Wine Company acquires grapes from more than 100 vineyards throughout California’s premier grape-growing regions, partnering with phenomenal growers who are dedicated to cultivating unique varieties. Director of Winemaking, Chrissy Wittmann, and her team of winemakers collaborate with this family of growers, visiting each vineyard site throughout the year to carefully assess the style and quality of every lot to make the best possible wine from each vintage.

From the beginning, The Prisoner Wine Company has had a commitment to fighting injustices, especially those tied to prison and policing systems. The company states their philosophy thus: “At The Prisoner, we know that the problems in the U.S. prison system are ingrained, nuanced, and seemingly intractable. We also believe that change can happen and that it starts with conversation, collaboration, and creativity.”

The Prisoner Wine Company describes its Unshackled brand as, “A California wine brand for those would rather express themselves than conform.”

Unshackled is one of several brands of the Prisoner Wine Company. Unshackled wines are designed to provide excellent quality at affordable prices and are created with the same care that goes into the luxury blends of The Prisoner label.

The 2021 Unshackled Chardonnay is a blend of Chardonnay and Albariño. The grapes come from the central coast of California and the wine showcases the region’s cool coastal breezes and sandy soils.

Winemaker notes describe this wine, “On the nose, this wine reveals notes of sweet cream, juicy white peach, green apple, and a hint of minerality, all accented by brown spice and vanilla. The wine's aroma leads to a round and smooth mouthfeel that is balanced by bright acidity. Hints of stone fruit and honey round out the flavor profile, making for an elegant and perfectly ripened chardonnay.”

This delicious white can be enjoyed on its own or paired with charcuterie, artisanal cheeses, grilled chicken or seafood.

Enjoy this wine well-chilled.
